1 Timothy 1:1-2

Today I want to talk about our spiritual relationships/ friendships. While having & being a spiritual “parent” is not a “requirement”, I believe you will see the benefits.

We see Paul calling Timothy his “true son in the faith”. That means a few things:

  1. That Paul loved Timothy like an earthly father would.

  2. They met because of Jesus.

If you know me, I have a huge heart & I love people. There are a few young men & women my sons ages or older that I consider my “adopted” children. I met them at church through my children. I would literally do anything for them.

For me, at my church in GA, God brought me Mr. Ernest & Mrs. Flo. She was our resident “AMEN” lady during service. He is a 2 time Vietnam War Veteran. They are some of my favorite people! I learned under them for years. I literally love them like a child would. (But I have not stayed in touch with them & that's terrible of me.)

God is good to me because I met Mrs. Diane in my Bible class at Highlands College Leadership Institute. Now I have her & Mr. Bill. I know without a doubt that I could go to them especially for a Spiritual need, and they would be there. They are older & more mature in their faith than me. They can advise me on things of God, Holy Spirit, or Scripture if needed.

Over the years, I’ve heard that we need someone ahead of us & someone behind us, spiritually. That we can learn from someone more mature than us & we can help others grow in their faith.

Who do you have in your life that is like this for you? If you don’t, pray & ask God to bring someone into your life. He will!
